Foreword by Denis Curti

Domiziana Giordano’s gaze focuses on a space when this presents itself to the naked eye as movement and mutation. By using a photographic camera or a surveillance camera, and by operating a new and different consideration on Presence, this artist’s intention, interpretation and intervention take place.

A portion or a passage of time that may seem nonessential is transformed by its salvage into a journey without distance, a path between perspectives and postponements.

In the frame, shots and fragments of reality. All around, processes, vitality, where the suffused and impromptu presences are recognized once again as beings. By bringing a colorless and homogeneous space back to life, the artist rescues the Presence by giving life and substance to that which, on account of indifference, had been lost in the transit. A commitment to take a stand in the world by presenting a new welcoming dimension of reality.

Action and intervention that recognize and overcome the absurd and unstoppable abstract and homogeneous speed of a traceless journey. Dedicated to the silence and to that nameless moment that disappears without having been seen, this artist’s work develops itself through a sequential shot that feeds and exposes the artificiality of a condition, and becomes the salvage of an expression. Deconstruct to reconstruct. By using scattered fragments and fleeting moments. The intent is to express a pattern of thought, of a complex journey of passion and knowledge.

Other perspectives are defined by the use of photography (and by the use of the image in general), by turning a feeble moment and the contradiction of a presence into a surface.

Distances that need to be traveled. We travel roads by train and by car with the intention of shortening or deleting the separation; the space that separates from the end is seen as a pause and as stillness. We quickly walk by, and glance at that which is considered barren, and that will be put aside and lost. Moments are compressed and shortened. Invention and translation. Only if we stop acting like absentees, we can move in closer to the understanding of the world.

Visions of today. The artist besieges the space that escapes the comprehension of those who don’t look. Domiziana Giordano’s work is a carefully planned elaboration that dilates, in accessible moments and worlds, the clashing evolution of the presences, and that determines, through a rich and harmonious sequence, a renewed availability. The photographic surface presents itself as a composite image, and the interesting chromatic signs and temporal oscillations that take place between each frame, add an elegant feeling of movement to the totality of the piece. What’s offered to the public aren’t neutral presentations, but segments that force us to reconsider and bring home actions that have been reinstated, possibilities of orientation. Thanks to this reorganization, proportions, scanning, and instances go beyond the limits of exclusion – or loss – and beyond a state in which the interest for that which exists is lost in a nowhere land of visibility. A meaningful illustrative model, an identity card, that clearly defines the relationship between the single and the other.

So that the representation of existence can take place in this artist’s emotional intention and capability of violating and representing the consumption of that which many consider as a natural loss: the passage of time.
